Bones Brigade Documentary in the works!
Stacy, Rodney, CAB, Tony, MIke, Lance and Tommy will be working on a Bones Brigade Documentary starting in February 2011.
On Monday, November 29th at Los Angeles International Airport, seven individuals that have had an extreme influence on skateboarding sat down to discuss work on a documentary of their experience. They met at the Encounter restaurant in the middle of the airport to begin work on this monumental film.
Stacy wrote, "Those skaters known as the Bones Brigade are now old enough to take a look back. At a time in the 80's when many people were mourning the second death of skateboarding, the Bones Brigade through passion, drive, creativity and a surprising sense of teamwork redefined the sport for their time and the future".
Documentary filmmaker, Stacy Peralta in a new film with Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero and others will investigate the history, the team and the men to determine what is the legacy of the Bones Brigade. "Five years ago the guys got together and told me they wanted to do this. They believed they had a significant story others would want to know about. So now we're going to see."
Simultaneously, a Powell-Peralta coffee table book is in the works. It will include the Bones Brigade, but also other things you knew and didn't know about Powell-Peralta.

I began skateboarding in 1962. The early 80's brought it all back when my daughter won a G&S Warptail, with Gullwing phoenix trucks and Slammer wheels. She didn't want it.... Now in 2010, I still skate, and have that old Warptail, gently retired. You guys were just too cool for the time. Love what the younger generations of skaters have done, to carry the torch. From Sidewalk Surfing, Z Boys, Bones Brigade, X Games, to Carbon fiber and video games: it's all good!

looking forward to this, however, you have to have Mike V in this as well, sure he's not an original member but still an iconic Powell rider that shaped and is still shaping skateboarding.

AWESOME!! I'm 36 and feel like I grew up with these guys. Whenever I see anything about any of the Boens Brigade members it takes me back and makes me remember how much I loved to skate as a kid. Can't wait for the documentory and the book. I'll be one of the first to purchase both.
This crew of skaters, influenced my childhood and teen years. I am greatly looking forward to the documentery on this period of skateboarding history. thanks guys....

I remember skating winchester and campbell watching some of the bones team members- Stevie, etc. Watching these pros/amatures (then) and skating were some of the best times of my childhood.
Making this documentary is a great idea; however, YOU deserve to make this the calibre of Dog Town and Z Boyz. This movie was made well and served that skate community or cult well. The Bones Brigade needs to have the best in the business to insure you put your mark in history beyond just another skate flick.... Just my thoughts. How about I help contribute? ;-) Dave

A lot time has passed, and in some way when you see their faces it's like to see and old brother and father, when I see my old friends I looked into their eyes and all I can see it's a happy kid inside when they're skating.

I grew up skating in the 80's when we were told not to skate. Bones Brigade boys are my idols and I have much respect for the whole team. You are the for fathers of skateboarding. I taught my son at the age of 2 about a board and look forward to many more drop ins with him at the skate parks. This documentary will have the most impact for future generations of skaters. It is no exaggeration to say that the Future Primitive Video changed my life. From the moment Tommy G hit that SF hill on I knew skateboarding was going to shape who I was. 25 years later I'm very happy with my life and I owe it all to skateboarding.
So I for one can't wait for the next Bones Brigade Video.

I love what I read! Last year I bought the DVD's of, The Search for Animal Chin, Ban This and Public Domain to bring back the memories, those three movies changed my life back in the day and I'm really looking forward to your new collaboration.
This makes the cirkel complete! Started skating again two years ago. This news is just perfect for the old school guys like myself. Last year we started an 'Veteran skateboard evening" once a month in our skatehall for people who are 30 year and older.
(I'm from the Netherlands so I hope to see the Bones Brigade again in Holland just like in the 80's)

The Bones brigade was the biggest influence for all of us that begun skating in the 80's. I still remember the day that my friend showed me the bones brigade video. I knew than that all I wanted to do from that day on was to become a skater.
That's Great News! The Summers of 1988-90 revolved around when Bones Brigade was coming to our town. Just watched propaganda with my 5yr old son and told him about the good old days.

Man, I have sooo many fond memories of the original 3 or 4 movies. I could watch the Search for Animal Chin over and over when I was a kid. It's really great to see these guys back together again and the documentary is a fantastic idea!

Years before the first video was produced, the Bones Brigade was a critical element of my experience as a skateboarder in the dark days of the early 1980s. Ray Underhill and I joined the Bones Brigade in August 1981. With only a handful of other skaters in the Nashville, TN, vicinity, being a member of the Bones Brigade made us feel connected to something larger.
I still have the wallet-sized membership card (signed by Stacy) that I recieved as part of my Bones Brigade package.

Who didn't grow up with these guys? Mexico City in the 80's... what a mania developed after Chin came out. Neon wheels everywhere and Brigade t-shirts to match.
The quality of the films (35mm, 16mm or whatever they were)were iconic pop works of art. Nothing like the video content H-Street and the other competitors tried pushing.

I grew up skating in the 80's at DMSR and the Bones Brigade there alot. It was Tonys home park after Oasis closed and I got to skate with him alot. Cab was my fav and the Bones Brigade had a huge impact on my view of skating. Im excited about this DOC.
I thought I knew alot or even enough about the bones brigade, I didn't know Rodney Mullen had anything to do with them.
I have a collection of around the way type books and would be glad to get a hold of that coffee table book for sure. I started skateboarding in 1983 and there is something entrancing about the Bones Brigade...I film looking back from the guys themselves is totally on point.

After the release of the Dog Town documentary I felt like this was the next significant chapter to be told in skateboard history. What Dog Town was to the second boom of skating, Bones Bridage was to the third. Can't wait to see the gems in this documentary. :) Now hurry up Stacey!!!

Well it's about time fellas. The Bones Brigade transformed the lives of many of my friends in Tennessee through your videos and Ray Underhill. And when I moved to Ohio I was able to create a new band of skaters in Columbus by introducing the tricks and videos you all had a hand in inventing or documenting. Thanks for leading the way. The group of people in that picture above influenced my life in such a way that I'll never be able to thank them enough. The Bones Brigade is beyond. Nothing has or will ever compare to their talent, originality,or influence in and outside skateboarding. The Dogtown and Hosoi and Gator movies were good but this I'm sure will be, by far, something to keep close to our hearts as skateboarders. I can't wait. Please continue to move forward with the story of the Bones Brigade. I'm 38 and will always consider this group to be my inspiration to push myself to try new things when skating.
Also, the Bones Brigade films most likely helped me stay out of trouble because after watching, we'd get full of teenage adrenaline and hit the streets to shred....instead of partaking in more negative activities.Take care guys, and good luck!

You guys defined one of the biggest parts of my childhood. Some kids had baseball, football or basketball players to look up to... I had the Bones Brigade! You guys are genius for doing this and like Chet said right above... its been a long time coming. BTW... Stacy... if you read this... please start off the Documentary with smashing a TV with a sledgehammer and pulling a skateboard out of it... Epic... Just seeing those images made my day. Guys, whatever you release I'll purchase, both ideas are great. I would also love a commentary addtion of Public Domain. (with all skaters above included). Everyone has a favorite Powell video, for me it's Public Domain hands down. Skating is unreal and I think it's Stacy's masterpiece...Visually there's never been another video like it.

This is Great.... I think back to my childhood. Having crappy Nash skateboard ... Then saving all our money to get a Real Board. Tony Hawks graphite infused board. With the Bird skull. How hard it was to fit in as a skater I'm 80s. Then watching it Blow up years later... Now its a style. So widely accepted and embraced. This film NEEDS to be done. Show how you guys changed it all. Without you ... doubt skating would be what it is 2day.

The Bones Brigade were my inspiration for taking all that s*it for being a sk8er back in the day. Some say it is so much better to be a sk8er these days now that it is "in". But sk8ing durring the days of the Brigade, hell it was like living with Jesus. I am so stoked right now! P.S. I am 34 I just built myself a 6ft mini and sk8 the mechanical dragon cab reissue...its a great time to be old school. Thanks for everything.......Yours truly Lewis Reid

I was 15 when I bought the first Bones Brigade VHS Tape. Now I'm 40 and I hope this project goes through so I can buy the DVD. Really though, this is a great idea! You could revisit some of the old places from the early videos. Even re-create the same tricks in the same spots from the 80's videos. Is Per still around? that guy had some rad tricks. Then again you all had sweet moves. Well, I hope it happens. If not for me then at least... "Do it for Johnny!!"

The Bones Brigade came to the rinky-dink town of Erie PA and did a demo in 1991-2ish. It snows 8 months out of the year and there isn't much skatable concrete in this town. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of West Coast skaters in magazines. This event made it so real and was one of the highlights of my entire high school experience. You guys rocked then and you rock now. I am pumped for the film!
..Just knowing these guys are still skating today stokes any old schooler just as much as it did twenty plus years ago...We still dream of doing some of the tricks we saw in those video's..and we realize how lucky we were to be part of skateboarding during that time (and we're lucky to be part of it still today!)

Very stoked to see this. Grew up skating in Ohio and idolizing the Bones Brigade. Now I live in Los Angeles and have actually had the honor to skate with McGill, Lance and Cab. Knowing what a great documentary filmmaker Stacy has become, a project like this will be epic awesomeness. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

This may be one of the rare events when the facts may be expressed in the forms of a documentary and a coffee table book that captures the art and times of skateboarding through time. Will be very excited waiting on the completion of either or both of the aforementioned projects. Best of luck with all of your future ventures.

I have just posted photos of Cab ripping the bowl in Livingston (Scotland) on Facebook. Film was taken for Public Domain and then a few years later Hawk probably did the first ever Mctwist in the same bowl. Remember it like yesterday... you need a European section in both the book and film!!!!

I grew up with you guys though not in the same place we are brothers. All of us have broken bones and laws and bled together.And have proved SKATING IS NOT A CRIME. Yes my body hurts every day but I still smile because I remember landing the tricks that caused those pains. Yes we are old warriors now but more important we were victorious! SK8 OR DIE
This great news guys! The Bones Brigade Video Show was the first(and still the best)skate video i ever watched. We would watch it all the time, then head off to Livingston Skatepark(where we seen the Brigade when they were on tour too) and try to learn some of the tricks.These were the guys we looked upto as kids, evryone of us wanted to be a Tony, a Mcgill, a Caballero or a Mountain(my personal favourite).
This is great i can't wait !! Great time in my life .I'm 38 years old now and I'm having the time of my life skating again the last 3 years regularly !! I can honestly say skateboarding saved my life . Nothing like rolling up to combi and skating with all my heros who are still ripping ,My friends included cuz we rip tooo!!

A HUGE thanks to all of you for putting this film together! I was lucky enough to get to see the documentary at Sundance Film Festival this year and absolutely loved it. A truly amazing story and can't wait for it to be released for everyone else to see.
